Whenever we have some skin issue we try to look for grandma's recipe, sometimes we even try DIY recipes which we see in Instagram, Facebook, or we search for them in google. Do you know that there are lot of ingredients which are harmful for your skin? which may burn your skin or make your acne or pimples worse.
Lets talk about products or ingredients which we should never ever use in our face from my experience.
1. Toothpaste - I have acne problem so I was looking for a solution to get rid of them. One day I came across a video in YouTube which says toothpaste help to dry your acne and eventually helps to get rid of them and the procedure to use was 'apply toothpaste in your acne and leave it overnight, in the morning wash it with your regular face wash'. So I did the way I saw in video though next day I felt its working, but guess what??? after using for 3 days, I noticed that I was getting black spots wherever I applied toothpaste and skin became dry and started peeling. Went to dermatologist and she said I literally burned my skin. Therefore never ever use Toothpaste on your face. According to dermatologist toothpaste has ingredients which is rough for your skin and eventually irritates skin.

2. Garlic - Here comes another grandma's recipe. My grandma suggested that I should use garlic on my acne mark because the antioxidant in garlic helps to reduce spot. I tried my grandam's home remedy and it resulted into rashes on my face. Later, I consulted my dermatologist and she said the antioxidant in garlic is really good for your stomach however it is very harmful for your skin. Therefore, Garlic is a big NO NO for your face.
3. Glue - Now a days there is a trend of using glue and charcoal to remove blackhead. Really??? Glue has ingredients polyvinyl acetate which destroy the PH balance of your skin. Ideal PH level is 5.5 if your skin becomes too alkaline it will become too dry and sensitive. Moreover, you may get inflammation, saggy and wrinkly skin.
4. Lemon - Yes I know I know, you will say I am wrong. Let me tell you first, Lemon has citric acid. If you directly apply lemon juice to your face it will destroy PH balance, your face will turn sensitive and dry. Do you know, lemon juice makes your skin more prone to sun burn? it destroys the layer of skin and makes it sensitize to ultraviolet rays. In my teens, my mom used to ask me to put lemon juice on my face to cure pimple. However, lemon juice use to make my face dry and red.
5. Baking soda - Baking soda is also known as sodium Bicarbonate, its a highly acidic ingredient which is used in baking. 30% of baking soda is alkaline, which damages your skin protective oil barrier, it imbalances you PH level, it destroys the natural bacteria of your face which protect your skin surface from infection and breakouts. Hence, baking soda for face is a big NO NO.
This ingredients are listed down from my own experience and I have also researched about them. I do not use them anymore.
I hope you do your full research before using anything in your face. Don't trust any video or recommendations before you do your homework on them.
But the toothpaste works fine for me, I don't keep it overnight. I just apply the toothpaste where I have a pimple and brush my teeth and then after I'm done brushing my teeth I wash my face with water, and it is really effective for me.
